In June of 2010 Tin Can teamed up with the Hammock Residency, a residency space run out of the East Vancouver home of artist and radical human being Heidi Nagtegaal. The Hammock Residency started in 2006, offering space to focus on the process of making art. What Nagtegaal offers is the space and support for artists to, for example, read all the books they’ve been meaning to read, to work on that writing they’ve been putting off. It is a community hub, happenstance event space and a good space to let things happen. It’s the spaces between the thoughts that inform the thoughts, and ultimately the art object.

From June to October, Tin Can was nestled in the back yard of the Hammock, acting as an additional room for artists working on their residency projects, a special event space, and a quiet spot for researching, reflecting, and the occasional tarot card reading. As part of the Backyard Music festival, the Association of Very Good Ideas turned Tin Can into the “Snack Bar and Booze Hole” serving delicious vegan coconut cream, and blueberry pies as well as a variety of other snacks and beverages to attendees of this amazing event.

Big thank you to Heidi for being so supportive and wonderful!
